Missions Work in Honduras Print E-mail

Chris and Maria Rivera are missionaries in Pena Blanca Honduras. After serving the Lord for nearly 18 years at Calvary Chapel East in Albuquerque NM then went on a short-term mission trip to Honduras, where God spoke to their hearts about long-term missionary work.  Convinced of their call, they returned to Albuquerque, sold everything, and moved to Honduras in the spring of 2007 where they were invited by Honduran hosts to start a bilingual school. Over the years that work has grown to over 350 students and faculty. Many of the teachers at the school are calvary chapel volunteers from across the United States.

In addition to the school they were instrumental in starting a new church. The vision of Calvary Chapel Pena Blanca is to teach the Bible verse by verse and to raise up godly Honduran leaders to eventually take over the church in entirety. As a result of the church additional opportunities for ministry are realized such as medical clinics, women's ministry, teaching life skills to younger women, Friday night youth groups, and seasonal soup kitchen outreach.

Calvary Chapel Greer provides regular support to the missions work of Chris and Maria Rivera. For more information about the work and ministry needs in Pena Blanca see their blog spot at http://riveramissionhonduras.blogspot.com/
